Who is Allen Meadows (aka Burghound)?
Allen Meadows is a Burgundy enthusiast from USA who has craved a niche for himself by specializing in Burgundy and its wines. Prior to his reincarnation as a wine critic, he worked as an executive in the financial industry for over 20 years.
In 1999, he retired with the idea of sharing his passion and knowledge of Burgundy with others. In 2001, he launched Burghound.com which is wholly devoted to Burgundy. Since its inception, Burghound has acquired a well-deserved reputation for providing an in-depth and exhaustive coverage of Burgundy.
In contrast with Bordeaux where a passing knowledge of Chateaus and vintages would usually be sufficient in enabling one to find a wine to one’s liking, the intricacies of Burgundy with its numerous winemakers making small quantities of wine from different plots of land spread throughout the region (which are further classified as grand cru, premier cru, etc.) presents a daunting challenge for Burgundy buyers.
